SBCT 10-Minute Play Competition
Written in 2020 for South Bend Civic Theater's 10 Minute Play Competition, "The Name of Action" needed to be between 8-15 minutes long, have 5 of fewer characters, and be inspired by a picture of an empty stage with a ghost light.
12x10
Originally conceived as a collection of 8 10-minute plays (and titled "8x10" as a reference to headshot dimension), this extended version was presented in 2018. I contributed two pieces. "Suffocation" is an introspective piece set in the author's mind and represents the issues and concerns constantly on her mind as visiting guests. "Through the Eyes of Another" presents one story through the eyes of three participants, revealing different understandings and experiences of the same event.
H2O: A Play About Water
Richard Hess and his students at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, "H2O: A Play About Water" was performed by Clay High School with additional pieces added for the full production (with the blessing of Professor Hess!) "Baptism" was co-written with a senior student, and puts a Christian and non-Christian in the same space to discuss the role of water in religion. "Cool(er) Story" tells the true story of a small fishing boat that capsized in the ocean leaving two fisherman floating in a large cooler before eventually being saved. "Erosion and Delusions" is based on the erosion occurring on the west coast of Michigan that has resulted in houses falling into the lake. "Brush Fires" combines multiple heroic and tragic true stories of firefighters battling the blazes of Australia in the winter of 2019 and 2020. "The Real Disaster of Disaster Films" contrasts a film audience member critical of how disasters are represented by Hollywood with experts discussing the reality of climate change and true natural disasters.
